“The case is the first time the courts have addressed the privacy of wireless communications, and the high court's final decision could have far-reaching effects. The case is the first time the courts have addressed the privacy of wireless communications, and the high court's final decision could have far-reaching effects” (Kennedy, 2009)
It all started when a Sergeant Jeff Quon sent steamy sexual text messages to his mistress and to then wife. The officer was engaging in what was considered sexting with the dispatcher, and sending personal messages to his wife. The problem was discovered when his supervisor saw that he had passed the limit of text messages and brought it to attention. His boss read some of the steamy texts that were sent back in fourth and Quon felt his 4th amendment was being violated, and this was an invasion of privacy. Quon took this to the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, and they ruled he could keep his texts private as long as he pays what he goes over on his texts. Lt Steve was tired of being the one always figuring out what his balance was after his limits so he did a formal complain to the police chief. Then they changed their mind and printed a transcript of his messages. This all very controversial because the privacy issue is being brought up. First point the pager did not belong to him it belonged to the government. Second point is this was allowed to continue as long as he paid the rover draft on extra messages. The police department changed their mind and investigated the situation more thoroughly going through his personal messages.
Geography: This places a huge role in this problem because we need to find out if Quon was texting while he was on duty. Did any of these texts implied to meet somewhere while on duty .If the sergeant was suppose to be on duty then he was violating a lot of rules. The location is very important because this man is being paid to be working not texting his mistress.
Government: The main person who has the say in this mess is the court. Using property that is government owned to your personal use is mot acceptable. The pager was given to him solely for work related issues not personal. The Sergeant could have sent his messages with his own personal phone if he wanted to keep it private. The 9th circuit U.S court ruled that he could keep messages in private without anyone reading them.
Economic: How much money does Quon owe to the police department? Should he be responsible on paying the whole bill instead of partial because he misused the pager to his personal use? The court will have to decide whether he would have to back pay all the other months he passed his limits and what is fair.
Political Science: Who has the right to search Quons texts messages? Should his supervisor be allowed to read these sexual explicit texts? If his supervisor is not allowed to read texts, then who has the power here to read Quons texts messages, and check if they are work related? Did the court’s ruling have that final say on this matter? Lt. Steve duke was tired of being someone’s personal auditor that he complained to the chief, and did he have the right to complain for this matter? Does Quon have any rights after he violated the use of his pager? Should the text messages be private or public, since did this involve a form of adultery? My personal opinion is that this it is a more political and personal because we have two angry men. One man is tired of checking up on Quons overdraft fees and Quon is the man who wants to be private and discrete.
Law: Is Quons fourth amendment being violated. Here we have a case where one man feels his text should be private and no one should be allowed to read them. He is concern that they violated his rights by searching and obtaining transcripts of his text messages without his consent. The law gave Quon the right to keep his text messages private but police department printed them and read them. I believe no matter how wrong Quons texts messages were he had the right to keep them private. Quon had gone to court and was granted his right to keep them private. Quon has had his right violated by the police department in my opinion .Now on the other side he did violate the use of property owned by his employer, and government. If Quon had signed a disclaimer stating that the pager was only to be used for work related then I believe he lost his rights when he violated the contract. However the contract he signs did not specifically state anything about text messages.
In conclusion the Supreme Court ruled that the police department did not violate Quon’s 4th amendment and they had every right to search through two months worth of texting.
“A California police department did not violate the constitutional privacy rights of an employee when it audited the text messages on a pager the city had issued him, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled on Thursday.” (Liptak, 2010)

Digital Native and Digital Immigrant
Digital native and Digital Immigrants are very different in many ways.
Digital Native:
• They are faster and less step by step
• More parallel and random
• They multitask and twitch speed
• Graphics first before text
• Thrive off instant gratification
• They instant message, download music, play video games
• Grow up watching Sesame Street or TV
• Crave interactivity
• Type by keyboard
• Correct papers on computer screen without printing
• Live on Digital world
• Communicate by VOIP, Web 2.0,Youtube, blogs
Digital Immigrants
• Learn step by step
• Think learning is not fun
• Think music and TV can’t help with learning
• Assume that learners are the same as they have always been
• Fairley new to the internet
• Did not grow up in the digital age
• Write by handwriting
• Note take by hand
• Print paper or email to edit
• Live on paper land
• Communicate through phone
• They lose reflection
Being Digital immigrants is not as bad because you can learn and adapt to the Digital native world. Digital immigrants usually learn about technology when they are in their adult years. Some digital immigrants were not raised or brought up in the digital world. Teachers are more comfortable in their traditional curriculum in the digital immigrant way. This is a reason why some student’s attention span is short because they are not use to the teacher’s immigrant’s way. Some teachers can’t even send email, send a text from the phone, fax, blog, or even use a cell phone.
"Digital Immigrant "accent" that manifests itself in a number of ways—printing out a digital document to edit it rather than editing it online.” (Prensky, 2001, p. 4).
The Digital Natives are brought up in the digital world. They grow up watching TV and using computers. They are more faced pace and parallel. Digital Natives are used to receiving information really fast. They can figure all the features on a cell phone, camera, website, and they can search t a faster speed. They were born in the era of technology.
“They like to parallel process and multi-task. They prefer their graphics before their text rather than the opposite. They prefer random access (like hypertext). They function best when networked. They thrive on instant gratification and frequent rewards. They prefer games to "serious" work.” (Prensky 2001a, p.1)
I am a.............
After reading the articles from Prensky’s I have determined I am a Digital Native. I may have not been born in the time where PS2 were used, but Atari’s am Nintendo’s existed. They are what we considered old technology, but they were technology in my time. I loved playing the shooting the duck game, and space games. The sounds and images of Atari and Nintendo are unforgettable. The Nintendo came with the Mario games and then they became addicting .Now technology has advanced and I have grown with technology on my side. I have not stopped but followed technology and have adapted to the faster route. I love the old ways, but the new ways are much faster and advanced. I love downloading music and prefer graphic before text. I never understood why I am a visual learner and some people were the opposite, but now I understand that I am a Digital Native and it all makes sense.
Difference
What makes them both different is the methodology, content, and thinking. They are both very different and I have provided some examples based on the Prensky’s article. Digital immigrants learn differently then digital Natives because the Digital immigrant learns at a more slowly paced level with less technology and old ways. The digital Native learns at a faster way finding more advanced technology to make life easier. Children who are raised with computer develop hypertext minds. However they both use the left side of the brain. In my opinion they learn and think differently depending on how you were raised.
Web 2.0 is more effective on Digital learners because it’s more graphic and more advanced. Web 2.0 enhances the way we visualize and story tells through images. Digital storytelling has improved in such way that we can weave images and give deeper dimensions. Our old way of viewing a simple picture will turn digital and dimensional. It will give us a more in depth picture and a more dimension angle with deeper color.
Web 2.0
The way you can teach digital learners effectively in your classroom is to adapt to their ways and teach in their level. This adapting to their level does not mean change your teaching, but be creative and use the technology that has been given in their time. I could be more graphic and digital with less text. Like Pesky’s article said “We have to invent, but not necessarily from scratch” (Pesky, 2001) I have to think of ways how to teach legacy, future content, and thinking in their language and ways.

Everybody Needs a Rock
The interdisciplinary lesson that most interest me was the Everybody needs a rock a lesson. As a kid I loves collecting rocks and observing their color and shape. There are smooth rocks, rough rocks, bumpy rocks and wavy rocks. Most kids love collecting rocks as kids and I thought this is an ideal lesson plan for kids because they can relate to this project. This lesson plan helps kids critically think, use their sensory, use mathematics, and use the science in the compounds and molecules rocks contain to form. More than one discipline is used in this lesson because with all the disciplines used together you can explain and understand more the object.
For this lesson students are to collect three rocks that look different in size and shape that they like. This part I like a lot because every student will come up with their personal taste, and it’s interesting to see what they come up with. This is the critical part because they get to evaluate and choose what attracts them. Next they put their rocks together in groups, and place them in the middle. Once they have observed their rocks the rock will be mixed. Then students will get blindfolded. Students will have to recognize their rock while they are blindfolded. This step I believe is the fun nest because they have to analyze the rock blind folded, and by sensory they will have to find their own rock. Lastly 10 rocks will be chosen out of all the rocks to be classified, weight, and measured.
Students can understand that science and math can determine why a rock looks or feels a certain way. The math makes it fun because they can use a ruler to measure and water to find out the mass and volume of that rock. The sensory they use helps the psychological part in their brain, because it stimulates their brain according to the texture of the rock. The technology that can enhance the lesson more is a digital scale and even a telescope. By adding technology it can make the project more fun and interesting.

Interdisciplinary Traits and Skills
The skills and traits that are required to be an interdisciplinarian are many. To lead a life with much accomplishment you would have to obtain a certain skill and trait to reach your goals. You will not need all the traits and skills in the world to be successful but one or two is enough. Today I will share two traits and skills that I obtain. In my life humor and humility are what helps me enjoy and appreciate life.
Willingness to work with other :"Interdisciplinarity is often a collaborative process. One person, no matter how thoroughly trained, will never have a complete understanding of any given problem or issue" (Repko pg 24)
I have always loved working in groups or with a partner. I have always thought two heads are better than one. Sometimes we think we don’t need help in anything but everyone lacks in something, and asking for help never hurts anyone. What we cannot see in ourselves or work, another peer can help improve it. I love lending a help when I see someone needs it the reward of that is bigger than staying quiet.
Appreciation of diversity: “This means simply, having respect for people holding different views, devoted to different faith traditions, and coming from different racial backgrounds” (Repko pg25)

I love culture diversity and my background. I love learning from different cultures their beliefs, food, customs, religion, and customs. Learning from other cultures helps you understand them as who they are. Sometimes we judge without understanding why someone dresses, smells, acts, or speaks a certain way. Appreciating who you are makes you stronger with your community and friends. I love learning about my culture and experiencing different things .Culture diversity is what makes this whole world we are al different andthat’s what makes us unique and special.
Two Skills
Ability to think creatively and intuitively: “No interdisciplinary is complete without the ability to imagine” (Repko pg 27)
Two Skills
Ability to think creatively and intuitively: “No interdisciplinary is complete without the ability to imagine” (Repko pg 27)
Creativity helps us make things unique and less boring. I am a very creative person that has a lot of imagination. People tell me I have the imagination of a kid and I daydream a lot. My imagination is what makes me the person that I am. I like to make something simple look appealing .Working with kids has helped me see things in a more abstract way. Being simple minded will not help me in a classroom with kids that their attention span is very low. Creativity makes everything more fun and appealing.
Ability to think dialectically: “By dialectically we mean any systematic reasoning or argument that places side by side opposing ideas for the purpose of seeking to resolve their conflict” (Repko pg 26).
Ability to think dialectically: “By dialectically we mean any systematic reasoning or argument that places side by side opposing ideas for the purpose of seeking to resolve their conflict” (Repko pg 26).
I am a very dialectically with problems that I encounter. I like to find every detail of what the problem is. I am analytic and like to understand the problem with its negative and positive information. I integrate all the informational and get a more clear and comprehensive understanding of the problem. Sometimes the negatives are what explains the problems and leads you to the answer. I like to find different ways to solve a problem.
